What should the owner do to prepare the dog for giving birth?

2022-04-29

Under normal circumstances, dogs can rely on their own instinct to complete the generation, naturally produce puppies, and lick off the mucus on the paparazzi.

However, some breeds of dogs have poor reproductive conditions and are prone to dystocia. At this time, the owner needs to pay more attention and give appropriate help in delivery.

Before giving birth:

Before giving birth, the owner should prepare a large enough cardboard box or kennel for the dog as the dog's delivery room, and put the dog diaper in it. The delivery room needs to be in a quiet room with enough space.

Prepare scissors, iodophors, sutures, clean towels, and cotton swabs in preparation for midwifery for inexperienced dogs.

1-2 days before giving birth, the dog will dig the ground with its claws and chew on objects. The owner can observe that it is mentally disturbed and looks for a quiet and dark place. This is more obvious in the first-time delivery dog. It means that the dog is preparing the place for its production at this time.

After giving birth:

After giving birth, the dog will lick the cubs. If there are too many, the dog can't deal with them one by one, and the owner can help wipe the anus with toilet paper. If the thin pup cannot get milk, make milk powder or let another dog raise it.

After the delivery, the dog is fed some glucose water and milk powder, as well as enough water. If your dog is willing to eat, offer a small amount of meat. Four meals a day, small meals often.

Things to watch out for:

1. The dog will be very weak within 6 hours after giving birth, the owner only needs to provide water.

2. In the next few days, mainly nutrient-rich liquid or semi-liquid food. Eggs with milk, rice with broth, and soy milk are all suitable.

3. After this period, the dog's nutritional intake will slowly catch up, no less than 3-4 times a day. Feeding should be timed and quantitative, and do not change the food at will, so as not to cause digestive disorders.

4. Be sure to ensure adequate drinking water, which is directly related to milk secretion.

5. When the weather is fine, you can take the bitch for a walk outdoors. The time should not be too long, but strenuous exercise should be avoided.

6. Remember to replace the mat, do a good job of indoor hygiene, and it is best to arrange disinfection at intervals. Give bitches and pups a good rest in a quiet, hygienic environment!

Generally speaking, dogs can rely on themselves to complete the production, and the owner only needs to do an auxiliary role. However, in order to prevent emergencies, the owner still has to do the preparations for dystocia. When necessary, he must seek professional pet personnel for help, and do not put the responsibility on himself in a package. Production is a major event, and I hope every dog can be cared for at this critical moment.
